A BRIEF HISTORY

The Laboratory of Tissue Engineering and Cell Cultures was founded on January 1, 2007.

Discoveries in molecular and cellular biology, made at the end of the 20th century, open up new prospects in the development of new biotechnologies, which will allow the treatment of a series of pathologies that are currently difficult to cure.

General notions:

Regenerative medicine is a process of creating a viable, functional tissue, restoring or replacing the function of tissues or organs.

Tissue engineering - an interdisciplinary field that includes biology, medicine and technical sciences - studies the in vitro creation of tissue and organ equivalents, using the principles of cell culture transplantation on a biocompatible carrier.

Cell therapy represents the transplantation of human or animal cells to replace or repair damaged tissue or cells. The cells used in cell therapy are stem cells, mesenchymal and hematopoietic stem cells, embryonic, fetal, germinal, and adult stem cells.

Gene therapy is the insertion of genes into an individual cell or biological tissue for the treatment of disease.

The benefits are as follows:

the possibility to identify, through stem cells, the mechanisms of development of the human body,

the possibility of obtaining new methods of treatment through the use of cell therapy,

the possibility of creating organs through tissue engineering in order to replace traumatized or non-functional organs.
